Locking table so they dont change shape

Hi,

I am a newby to Microsoft Word. I am building a form where employees
can enter details. The form is made up by building a table with two
columns, one for the field name and the other blank for employees to
fill in details. What is happening is that when an employee presses
return, the box expands to accomodate the new line. This pushes all
continueing page content down and distorts the layout.

Is it possible to do something (ie. lock the table) so that it wont
create a new line in the box? If not, can anyone suggest a solution to
this. Any suggestions would be much appreciated.

not sure which version you're using, but in mine, i can fix this by
going to the drop down menu for tables, and "autofit" and choose a
configuration that suits, ie., not "autofit to contents" !
