Lockup when inserting pictures

I am having an issue where any microsoft office program locks up when i try
to inert a picture from file. I was trying to insert a jpeg logo into a
Publisher newsletter and the whole program locks up either, before I can
browse to the correct folder or upon clicking the jpeg. I am getting the
same action in word, excel and powerpoint.

Thanks for any insight you can provide.

Not every image. When I do 'Insert -> Pictures -> From File...' it defaults
to the 'My Pictures' folder. I can insert any of these pictures. However,
if I browse to find another picture saved elsewhere, the program locks up,
will not load my picture, will not close and gives me the 'program is not
responding' message. I get the same thing in every other office program
(word, excel and powerpoint).

The files I can load from 'My Pictures' are JPEG's as is the file I would
like to load from the other location. The program isn't locking up so much
when I try to load the picture as it is when I simply browse for the picture.
I haven't loaded any software lately and am not sure what is causing the
issue. I have restarted warm and cold and still get the same issue. Really
perplexing!

Did you try to find an updated graphics driver from the manufacturer's web site?
Did you slide the acceleration down? Did you read the the third FAQ?

Have you done a disk clean-up lately. Right-click your hard drive icon,
properties, disk cleanup. Keep the Office setup files.

The manufacturer doesn't list my video card on their site. It's an ATI
Radeon Express 200 series, the closest they have listed is the 300 series. I
e-mailed them but no word yet on an updated driver. Changing the
acceleration does not help. I performed a disk clean-up and kept the office
set-up files also, no change.

I'll let you know what I hear on the video driver.

It took way too much time only to discover I have the latest driver. Haven't
hear anything from ATI. Thanks for going above and beyond, Mary! What shoud
I try next?

The url was very helpful, thank you again for going above and beyond. What
took so long is I had to download and install software to update the driver,
which didn't need to be updated. Anyway, the picture doesn't seem to be the
problem as I can open it with Paint and Windows Picture and Fax Viewer.

I am sending the file to your mvps account. Thanks!
