Lockup

I have a user with XP Service Pack 2 and he is using Outlook 2003. He tends
to do a lot in his email and internet. (No, I don't think this is a
question for the Outlook group but I'm posting there also.) He also tends
to not turn off his computer unless something happens. He also has a LOT of
emails. Just now his computer locked up on him and I closed all unneeded
programs (internet, aim, realplayer, etc.) He did NOT want his Outlook
closed because he had 30 emails open (yes, 30) and did not have time to
reboot and try to find them all again. I was able to do a print screen of
the scroll list of the emails he had open. No matter what I did, his
Outlook stayed locked up. Word was fine obviously since I was able to print
screen and print out the list of emails. I told him he had to reboot if he
wanted to use his email again. Is there anything I could have done to get
his email unlocked without closing Outlook/rebooting? He gets frustrated
when this happens. And so do I cause I haven't found a better way to get
him out of this jam.

Thanks.

Actually, this *is* an Outlook issue *unless* the user has also
installed all kinds of spyware-bearing cr*p on his computer. In that
case, it's probably an Outlook issue *and* an
operating-system-that-hasn't-been-maintained issue.

But there is no way for us to give you focused troubleshooting because
aside from knowing that the user is probably an irritating person to
work with, we know nothing about his computer, his version of Outlook,
whether he has a .pst file that is hundreds of MB large, his
virus/malware status, etc. And for all we know, the computer could be
overheating.

Here's a link which explains what to include in a newsgroup post:

Certainly crossposting to both the Outlook group and this one is a good
idea until we know for sure more about what is causing the lockups.

Also, having 30 emails open at the same time, especially with a percentage of them
probably being in HTML format, with who knows what contained in the source code, is
definitely NOT something that I would ever recommend. That alone could have caused
Outlook to lockup.
