Log-In Credentials in a Macro

L

Little Penny

I have an excel macro that accesses files on another computer over the
network (workgroup). I have shared this folder however when I run the
macro unless I access the other computer and enter the log in
credentials. Is there a way to hard code the log in credentials into
my code, so that it's not necessary to login if the computer is
restarted or another account logs on?

What I currently do now is goto Start=>Run \\10.0.118.16 and enter the
credentials before I run the macro.

Below is a snap shot of the code that accesses the other computer

Set Res = Range("A1") 'upper left corner of Result range

Set fs = CreateObject("Scripting.FileSystemObject")
Set f = fs.GetFolder("\\10.0.118.16\DataFiles\")
Set fc = f.Files

i = 0

With Res

For Each fl In fc

If UCase(Right(fl.Path, 4)) = ".TXT" Then

Thanks

I would try FTP (File Transpfer Protocol) instead. I included the macros for
FTP below. You can manually access FTP from the Start - Run by typing FTP.

From the FTP prompt you can type HELP. FTP will accept a widlcard "*" so
you can transfer all the TXT files in one command. here are the commands you
will need to do it manually

1) Open - Specify what computer you want to login into. In your case
10.0.118.16 or a networkname like ftp.microsoft.com
2) User - This command will accept you name and password
3) cd - change directory to go to DataFiles
4) send or put - these are equivalent
5) recv or get - these are equivalent
6) FTP has two modes - ASCII or Binary. For text files you can use either
mode. For non text files like executables use binary. ASCII has an
advantage with text files that it will converter Carriage returns and Line
Feed if you are going from Windows to UNIX.

First try the transfer manually and then you can use the code below once you
understand how FTP operates.

You could also use WIN32 methods to move the files. There arre problem a
lot of methods you can use, I had the code for FTP and have used FTP for a
long time.

Const MAX_PATH = 260

Const FTP_TRANSFER_TYPE_ASCII = &H1
Const FTP_TRANSFER_TYPE_BINARY = &H2

Const GENERIC_WRITE = &H40000000
Const BUFFER_SIZE = 100
Const PassiveConnection As Boolean = True
