Logging into Project Server 2003

When logging into Project Server 2003 from Project 2003 client I have to log
in twice. Meaning I click on my user name once. Project then hangs
indefinitely. I will click cancel and then click on my user name again and
instantly get logged into Project Server. The Project client and Server both
are running the latest service packs. I am also using Windows authentication.
I have gone as far as rebuilding the server and workstation from scratch and
still have the issue. Any clues as to what may be happening would be
appreciated.

In our case these problems appeared around the same time we upgraded to
version 8 of the McAfee antivirus software. There was a known bug with
McAfee affecting some kind of network protocol. We applied the patch and
crossed our fingers but it didn't seem to help -- still looking for a
solution.

I don't think it is a Project Server problem. Will experiment on a few more
PCs (including ones which have never had McAfee installed) and see what I
find.

You were completely correct about Mcafee 8.0 being the culprit. After doing
some digging in some previous posts I found that other people were have the
same issue. Mcafee also acknowledges the issue. I guess it has to do with
there script scan feature. Anyway their work around is to unregister the
script scan module. I ran the following command and everything was groovy.

regsvr32 /u "C:\Program Files\Network Associates\VirusScan\scriptproxy.dll"

Hope this works for you as well.

Thanks for your reply and input,
Mark
