Logging on via Windows user account vs Entered

C

C.K. Au, Jeffrey

Hi

I've set up Project Server and can log on to Project Web Access using
my default Windows user account (ie. you click the option on the left
menu)

However if I tried to enter the same Windows user account and pwd into
the User Name and Password fields, I get the error

"You have entered an incorrect user name/password combination (5002)"

I thought I could still login using my Windows user and pwd.

I checked the SQL table MSP_WEB_RESOURCES and I noticed for my user
account record, I see the password column is empty?? The password
column for the user "Administrator" contains an encrypted string

Could this be the reason why I cannot log in by typing the user name
and password? Is there any way I can save my password into the
MSP_WEB_RESOURCES table?

TIA

The login page to which you refer is only used for accounts with Project
Server authentication. That is why you get the error message, because your
account using Windows authentication. If you want to log into Project Web
Access automatically without having to click the link on the left side of
the page, use a URL similar to the following:

http://servername/projectserver

Hope this helps.

SYMPTOMS
When you use the administrator account to try to log on to a Microsoft
Project Server 2002 Project Web Access Web page or a Microsoft Project Server
2003 Project Web Access Web page, you receive the following error message:
You have entered an incorrect user name/password combination. (5005)
CAUSE
This problem occurs when you enter the wrong password for the administrator
account.
WORKAROUND
If you have to reset the administrator password for the Project Web Access
page, you must clear the WRES_PASSWORD option in the MSP_WEB_RESOURCES table
in the Project Server SQL database for the administrator account. Then, you
have to reset the password after you log on to the Project Web Access Web
page.

Important Follow these steps to temporarily set the administrator password
to a blank password. You have to reset the password in Project Web Access
immediately after you log on.

We recommend that you reset the password by using the following guidelines:•
Do not use a blank password when you reset the password in Project Web
Access.
• Create your password to include at least five characters. The password
should be complex. The password should contain a combination of uppercase and
lowercase letters, numeric values, and special characters. For example, you
can use a combination of the following characters:
? < >! @ % ^ &
To reset the administrator password to a blank password, follow these
steps:1. Log on to the computer that is running Project Server 2002 or
Project Server 2003 by using an account that has administrative permissions.
2. Click Start, point to Programs, point to Microsoft SQL Server, and then
click Enterprise Manager.
3. In SQL Server Enterprise Manager, expand Microsoft SQL Servers, expand
SQL Server Group, expand (local) (Windows NT), expand Databases, expand the
Project Server database, and then click Tables.
4. In the details pane, right-click MSP_WEB_RESOURCES, click Open Table, and
then click Return all rows.
5. In the data table box, locate the WRES_PASSWORD column, click to select
the text in the WRES_PASSWORD column, and then click the Backspace key until
all the text is removed.
6. Quit SQL Server Enterprise Manager.
7. Click Start, point to Programs, click Microsoft Project Server, and then
click Configure Microsoft Project Server.
8. On the Project Web Access Web page, log on to the page by using the
administrator account and the blank password.
9. On the Administration Overview Web page, click Manage users and groups.
10. On the Users Web page, select Administrator, and then click Modify User.
11. On the Modify User Web page, click Reset Password.
12. In the Reset Password -- Web page dialog box, enter a complex password
that uses the password guidelines that were mentioned earlier, and then click
Save Changes.
