Logon to Access

Some time ago I was experimenting with Access security. As a result, every
time I open any Access database, I am asked for a name and password in the
"Logon" box. None of my databases have passwords and this box comes up for
every database I open, even new ones. I have tried every possible password I
would ever have come up with to log on as "Admin" but nothing works. I've
tried cracking the password but the tools only work directly on databases and
they say that no passwords are set. The logon appears to be connected to
Access itself but it only appears if I try to open a database. I can log on
with another name but not to the Admin account. If I could, I'd clear the
password in the hope that I wouldn't be asked to log on, but it happens with
EVERY database so I actually think something has gone wrong.

Can anybody offer any assistance?

Thanks
Ian

You are joined by default to a mdw that has a password set for the Admin
user.

You can use Start Search and locate all mdw files on the computer.

Use the workgroup administrator (Tools, security) to see which one you are
joined to currently. Click on Join and rejoin the standard system.mdw that
ships with Access. It usually is located in the windows system folder, but
not always.

If you find that this doesn't work, then you may have modified the
system.mdw when you played with security (rather than creating a new mdw).

If that is the case, then you can join system.mdw. Then exit Access and
rename system.mdw to systemold.mdw.

Now start Access and it will create a new pristine system.mdw for you
(assuming you are using Access 2002 or 2003).
