envelopes, but when I get to the point where I'm choosing
the data source (address book), it asks me to logon to
Microsoft Exchange. What does THAT mean??

That means you're probably not using Outlook or another
registered MAPI address book for your addresses. Word mail
merge can only connect to certain, specific kinds of
"address books", and Outlook Express's (for example) is NOT
one of them.

Since you don't give us any further information about what
kind of address book you have, or the version of Word,
that's about all I can tell you. But chances are you need to
EXPORT your addresses to a file type mail merge does
recognize before you can merge them.

Well now... that would help. I'm using Outlook Express
5, and Microsoft Word 9. Do I have to have th OE Address
Book open to be "logged on"?

As I explained in my previous message, you canNOT use
Outlook Express with Word. There's no communication between
the two application. OE belongs, technically, to Internet
Explorer. And in an organization as large as Microsoft, with
so many teams working on "their thing", the left hand often
doesn't know what the right hand is doing, and in addition
there are co-ordination problems...

Outlook Express has the capability to EXPORT (under the File
menu, I think) the address book to a delimted text format.
Word can use this for mail merge. It's an extra step, but
not too bad.

Or, as Ralph suggests, you can transfer to Outlook.
