Long delay displaying pictures in Word 2000: SOLUTION

M

Mark Burch

For a very long time I have had a problem with pictures (inline metafiles
and other objects) displaying as grey boxes for perhaps 20 seconds before
displaying properly. This meant that scrolling through a long document could
be excruciatingly slow and a Print Preview could easily take 15 minutes.

Thanks to a suggestion from Gavin at onefix.co.uk I found the solution
today. It was caused by an accumulation of temporary files. After deleting
8217 files from C:\Documents and Settings\Mark Burch\Local Settings\Temp the
problem disappeared.

I'm posting this in the hope that it will save somebody else the frustration
I've had over the last year.
