Long delays opening Office/Outlook

We are occasionally experiencing long delays(up to 5
minutes) opening files in Office products and Outlook.
Visio and AutoCAD seem to be immune from it even though
the files are in the same server and drive. We have about
25 computers running mostly XP and a few with 2000. Server
runs Small Business. Network traffic does not seem to be
the source of trouble.
