Long file names in MS Office 2004

Will MS Office 2004 allow long file names? If you know, could you
include your source? I've been surprised to not see the feature or
lack of it mentioned at MacWindow, Macrumors, or Mactopia.

I just tried looking for it all over the place and can't find the official
word listed anywhere. It's not on an MVP page. It's not at macfixit.com.
Strange. It's something like it can't be longer than 31 characters,
*including* the letters in the folder(s) it's located in.

You can rename the files themselves in the Finder, and when you open it (say
in Word) it will be truncated, but when you save it, it will remain as you
named it in the Finder.

Hi Lewis,

AFAIK no one has a really good crystal ball. Until Microsoft releases
either the product or an announcement it's anyone's guess.

Thanks Walt and Jim. I thought since MS announced Office 2004 at MWSF
this week they would be sure to include and announce the long file
name feature ... since it's the one I want most. ;-)

They really only announced a subset of changes in Office2004 - all
of which are new, Mac-only features.

I'd expect further announcements as Office04 gets closer to release.
