Long project save time with SP2 (for large files)

We did not install the IU because of known issues with large files. They
took hours to save. We had high hopes for SP2 but are seeing the same thing.
A file that takes 20 to 30 minutes to save now takes 6 or more hours with
SP2. IS this the same issue as with the Infrastructure Update? Or, more
clearly, was the long save issue of the IU supposed to have been fixed with
SP2? I cannot find any documentation on it.

Yes, we had SQL 2005 SP3 installed. Small files were very quick but large
ones took all day (42 MB file about 16,000 tasks spanning 8 years).

For some implementations, tuning performance requires implementing some
custom SQL execution plans. It sounds like your system is in this realm. You
should take advantage of working with your Project Partner or Microsoft
directly to get additional support for your problem.

Having a Project Server at hand - why have a single file with 16.000
lines at all ??

Quizzed again

Go back and verify your installation of SP2. I screwed up the Infrastructure
update installation (or the Aug CU - I forget) and it caused the same exact
behavior. Small files took 6 hours to save. I checked the database versions
and the SW versions and found that for some reason it did not install
properly on my app server. Once I re-installed the update it worked great.

Renee, I replied to the wrong thread, but in my reply I said that the same
thing happened to me when I messed up the installation of a prior update on
teh servers. Go check teh database versions and also the server
installations. I found that small files saved instantly when the SW was
installed properly after I re-installed it (but took hours when the SW was
not installed correctly). BTW, I also found that even though my SP2
installation failed, the database versions and the server installations all
had the correct version numbers and SW numbers. However i knew it was not
installed properly because of an error message I received and the files would
not save to the server. The point is, just because your IT guy says it is
installed properly, does not make it so. Good luck.
