long standing problem with error 0x80070643

Since early November I have not been able to install office 2003 updates. I
have followed the knowledge base advice and the Office Source Engine is set
to manual, but still no success. I suspect that it might be a problem in the
registry as I had been affected by a virus and a colleague ran a registry
cleaner. Am I right in thinking that the easiest solution would be to
uninstall office 2003 and reinstall it? I

Thanks

Andrew

No one here could possibly advise you on the correct course of action as you
have provided nothing upon which to base an opinion. No actual problems,
errors, error messages, just a simple "can't install." The first question I
would ask is, why not?

The title of my thread question is "long standing problem with error
0x80070643" I presumed that a reader of the question would therefore have the
specific reference. Clearly I should have put that in the body of the
question text. To reiterate, the same error message appears with all failure
records for office updates only (other updates appear to work with no
problem). To avoid any further confusion the failure error is 0x80070643.
