Long Time to Open an Xml WordML

I've got a WordML document that is very big (60.000 Kb: about 600 pages).

If i open this document, Word take a very long time to open it.

If i save this open document in Word format (".DOC") and re-open it, the
opening is faster.

Do you know why? Is it possible to set some property o Word Application to
reduce this time?
