Look Up Crash MS Word

I'm running MS Word 2003 on a Windows XP Dell Inspiron laptop. Whenever I
highlight a word, right click and chose "Look Up", the "Research" pane comes
up, causing Word to Crash.

This wouldn't be a big deal (I just wouldn't do that) except for the fact
that every so often I someone trigger the keystroke that does the same thing
- which is very annoying.

Can someone help me solve this problem? Why would Word crash when trying to
lookup a word?

Thanks!

Alt+Left mouse click opens the Research Pane - which is probably causing the
crash. If you open the Research Pane deliberately, does it open OK?. Do you
have always-on Internet access?

Yes, it opens ok. Apparently only when I tried to do a "look up" did it
crash. And yes I have an always-on internet connection (DSL).

I seem to have fixed the problem myself by deactivating several research
services. One I explicitly remember was deactivating Factiva, but it may have
been another one.

Now when I look at the "Research options..." dialog box on the Research
Pane, I only have Encarta Dictionary English (North America), Thesaurus (US),
eLibrary and Encarta Encyclopedia: English (North America) checked.

Now when I right click on a word and chose "Look Up", the Research Pane
comes up and gives me reasonable entries, WITHOUT crashing MS Word.

So it seems like I must have had a "bad" research service activated, that
was causing Word to crash - a behavior you would hope wouldn't happen, but it
doesn't entirely surprise me...

Thanks!
