Looking for an MVP

M

mvpreq

I am looking for some help in Microsoft Word customization and programing and
help with databases. I need direct contact with phone number and email of
someone interested in helping for this project. Please respond directly to
following email account with your contact details.

(e-mail address removed)

Please let me know your charges. You may write me your phone number if you
will like me to call and talk to you regarding my project.

I find it hard to believe that you are making a ligitimate request for
technical expertise from people you obviously consider dumb and/or desperate
enough to respond with personal information to a blind email address.

Dear [whoever you are],

I doubt if anyone disputes that e-mail is "a legitimate means of business
contact", but the lack of *any* other identifying information, including a
real name and telephone number, and the cryptic details, made me not even
think of responding. Your reply to Bob does nothing to disabuse me of that
conclusion, I'm afraid.

If this is genuine, maybe you should start again. Just a suggestion :)

It's also a highly-abused method of gathering information
inappropriately.

While you write "I need direct contact with phone number and email of
someone interested in helping for this project", you don't give that
information yourself. That's hardly conducive to trust on the part of
your intended audience.

FWIW, I would never consider responding to a post such as yours with the
requested information. Your mileage may vary with others...

I can understand people’s concern which is same as mine; you can’t post all
personal information for everyone to see. However there is enough
information to initiate first contact from someone interested in working. To
set the record straight I don’t need this information for anything else,
except for what is stated. If anyone doesn’t feel comfortable, they don’t
need to respond. And by the way I have had good response to my post; I just
need one helpful person.

I have to get back to work now and no more time wasting responses.

....you forgot to add "The check is in the mail" along with the rest of the
typical disclaimers. Your intent may very well be of a most honorable
nature, but as Clive noted, *nothing* you have posted suggests anything of
the sort.

Good Luck |:>)

There is no danger I can think of in including your real name. Once you're
giving your email address, what harm can come from giving your name? Even
those of us who post here using easily human-decipherable spoof email
addresses to discourage spambot emails post with our real names.

Your post subject is "Looking for an MVP". You've now had several replies
from MVPs making it clear what sort of response you're likely to get with an
approach asking for personal information but not divulging any. I'm glad you
found "one helpful person". What you actually need, of course. is "one
helpful person with the required skills". I hope you found that too. Just be
aware that most professionals with the required skills are not going to
respond.
I have to get back to work now and no more time wasting responses.

That sounds like a gratuitous snub to me. A strange attitude from someone
needing help...

Hi,

Well, once again I am the odd man out. I found nothing particularly
difficult or hard to comply with concerning your request.

Just the same, I am swamped with work already.

If you can post some specific questions perhaps we can get you on track
to handle this task yourself or with an able assistant.

You already know that Word is programmable (AppleScript, VBA, and
WordBasic) and that Word interacts with databases via the data merge
manager.

Could you describe a bit about what kind of things you want to do? I'm
willing to bet they are easy enough for you to accomplish with a bit of
coaching from us folks here in the peanut gallery. You'll at least get a
feeling of having done something worthwhile if you give it a try.

I do. My personal information is in my .sig and always has been (for the
past nine years...)

So you can go ahead and ring the phone number if you wish :)

Cheers
