anyone able to give a name or phone# of someone who can
answer a few general questions as to the applications
customization process for project?

Rob Schneider

As a first step, why not ask questions here. As a second step, hire and
pay a consultant?

Hope this is useful to you. Let us know.

I believe your response to Rob is out of line. Rob has volunteered his help
to literally hundreds of folks in this newgroup without expecting anyone to
hire him in return. In fact, everyone in this group is a volunteer, and no
one is paid to answer questions in this newsgroup.

We are all happy to answer questions posted publicly in this newsgroup
because that way everyone benefits from both the question and the answer. I
think most of of us are reluctant to give you free consulting help over the
phone, which is what you requested in your original post.

If you need consulting help, then your company should consider spending the
money. Otherwise, I don't believe that attacking good folks like Rob is
going to win you too many friends in this forum. I think you owe him an
apology.

My, my, aren't WE touchy. Perhaps this newsgroup is too cliquish???
The posters need MVP'S to come to their aid on the basis of one
message???

Actually, I believe YOU owe ME an apology. I was NOT the original
poster of this thread. I never requested a phone consultation, and
never would. Nor would I ever give out my phone number, no matter WHO
offered what!

As an MVP, are you not taught to check out an entire thread before
responding in a negative manner? Does not Microsoft have MVP
guidelines?

I inserted that comment as I've noticed many of Rob's replies (and
I've been reading this group for awhile w/regularity) OFTEN include
such statements. Does he not realize that people are here BECAUSE
they don't want to pay for classes, books, consultants for a product
they've already paid through the nose for???

I have absolutely nothing against BSP. And I think Rob (or others)
should list his web site or services below his sig, that would be more
appropriate and perhaps he'd get some business that way.

Also, why do YOU and many here ASSUME that everyone that comes to this
newsgroup is a BIG company??? Bad/wrong assumption!

I was not 'attacking' Rob. When I verbally attack someone, folks
always know, as words ARE my business.

Nor am I here to 'make friends'; (Is that why you all are here? To
make friends?) I have a life for that, I'm here to learn to use a
product.

Dale,

Thanks for support. The OP clearly skipped a step (or more).

Hope this is useful to you. Let us know.

You are overlooking one key (but non-obvious) element in the notion of
"product support" for MS Project. You mention that words are your business.
As such I'm sure you're well aware that one can know just about all there is
to know about MS Word and be able to use its every feature without having
the skills of a professional writer. But MS Project is simply not that kind
of "appliance" product. In order to use it effectively one must know not
only the mechanics of the software, more importantly one must understand the
tools, concepts, and techniques of professional project management as
implemented in Project. That's why the frequent recommendation to either
attend courses or employ a consultant. Simply figuring out how to
manipulate the software by fiddling with it and asking a queation here and
there does not mean one actually knows how to use it properly to create and
manage well-run projects. A well-done course does not teach MS Project. It
teaches Project Management Using MS Project, a different thing altogether,
and a similar skill set is what a consultant can bring to the table.
