Lookup and compare

Hi: I have a stock symbol is D8 on a worksheet named "July Pick". In E8 of
that sheet, I want excel to search a list of symbols in another sheet and
return "--" if it finds the symbol or "New" if it doesn't. The other sheet
is named "June Pick" and the list of symbols I'd like to search in that
sheet ranges from D827. Any ideas?

One way,

=IF(COUNTIF('June Pick'!$D$8:$D$27,D8),"--","New")

should be in E8
