Looping through license agreement

Lee Newson

Hi,

I have a user who has been using project web acces (project server) without
any problems for a while now, however as of the beginning of this week when
they try to go to project server (http://servername/projectserver) instead
of directing the page to the home page it brings up the license agreement
again, then if they agree to it and click ok, it brings up the license
agreement again. It seems to be stuck in a loop.

further details

machine = laptop
browser = latest IE with all fixes & service packs etc
NO third party toolbars installed

does anyone have any ideas?? as i said they have been using it without any
problems until the beginning of this week.

Cheers for any help

Lee

If you're absolutely certain that the google toolbar wasn't installed, and
nothing else like it, then try having the use logon from another machine. If
there's no problem, and someone else can log into the user's machine without
a problem, then try recreating the user profile by first renaming the old
one to dot.bak and have the user logon anew. If the problem goes away,
migrate the users profile items to the new profile.

Hi Gary,

I have had the user log on to another machine which worked fine. I then got
a different user to log on to the machine which is having a problem and the
same problem occured (looping through the EULA screen), and i tried renaming
the profile again no difference.

At this point i looked at KB article that describes this problem (KB837655)
and i followed the steps in the article... no resolution.

I then tried forcing the download of the activeX controls from the microsoft
site and this didn't solve the problem.

At this point the user decided it was about time to let me know that there
are 2 other users who are having this problem (typical).

When i called them they both said that they do not have toolbars installed
and never have, unlike the primary user thay have only ever tried to use PWA
the once and because it didnt work they gave up, however the only
similarity, is that they all use laptops. I know this shouldn't be the
issue however it seems strange that they are the only users who have this
problem where all other users on desktops do not.

cheers for your help

So many possibilities: Let's see, people who have loptops often have dial-up
connections. Some of these ISPs have acceleration software that has the same
affect as the toolbars and popup blockers.

Hi Gary,

We have now solved this issue. for your records if a computer is running a
firewall (in this case Symantec firewall) then this issue occurs. simple
enough to solve - disable the firewall, logon to project server and go
through the EULA and controls download. When this has finished and you are
redirected to the home page, you can close IE, re-enable the firewall and
PWA will work from now on.

sorry to have been a bother about this, it turns out that this user has just
had the laptop re-built due to some system files becoming corrupt and as a
consequence when the laptop came back it was a "clean" machine with the
added addition of a firewall (courtesy of new IT procedures).

Thanks for your help with this, i hope that this solution may help others in
the future.

This problem also occured on my machine but only after applying the Project
Server SP1. I removed SP1 and everything's working fine once again. Any hints
on this one?

here is the quick and easy fix that worked for us.... logon as a different
user who has a valid account and go to the projectserver site. It will prompt
you with the license agreement again for the new user, accept it, now the
activex gets installed anew then logout and try your original account and you
should be fine.

How were you able to uninstall the Project Server SP1 from the server
machine. I tried looking for it in the Add/Remove Programs from the control
panel but i can't find it. also there's no "Show Add in" checkbox in the
Add/Remove Programs dialog box.

Please Help. Thanks.
