Loosing my formats on paragraphs and tabs

I don't seem to be able to format the paragraphs and tabs
that I place in my Word 2002. Paragraphs that are
supposed to be justified are not; and tabs are not
followed.

I share the same experience as someone else on this
thread about having the whole document being reformated
eventhough a single word is selected.

Pleeeeeeeeeese help!!!
