Lose formatting when copy and paste from 2004 to 2008

Our mac users prepare involved proposals including charts, graphics and
often need to use those charts, graphics, and text from proposals prepared in
an earlier version of Word. When they simply try to copy & paste, they lose
most, if not all, of the formatting. We're in the middle of doing one of
these proposals now. If you have a quick fix for this, I'd appreciate it.
Then I'm going to have them enroll in a training class. Thank you.

Hello Semad;

Unless you're omitting some very important details about the workflow I'd
have to ask first why you don't simply open the older file as a Copy (using
the dropdown in the lower left corner of the Open dialog) or actually
opening the file & using Save As. Any time you involve copy/paste there is
the likelihood of similar problems & it may also be a longer process.

If you supply more details perhaps there are other suggestions or options to
be considered. Exactly what formatting is being lost - graphics, text,
styles...?

Have you tried any of the Edit> Paste Special options?
