Losing address book settings, shortcuts and favourites

We are experiencing problems with users losing address book settings, shortcuts and favourites in Outlook 2003. This seems to occur intermittently and without reason. The settings held in Address Book>Tools>Options regarding which calendar to display first are disappearing. We understand these settings are stored in the Windows Messaging Subsystem as a Reg_Binary key and not in the .xml file that is associated with the mail profile. Is this correct? As for the favourites and shortcuts, we understand these are held in the .xml file so we are therefore restoring this .xml file after the settings have been lost. Why are these settings being lost, and how can be stop this from happening?
