losing bold font in signature for new e-mails

My signature line has been working fine for months. Starting today, when I
create a new e-mail, my font in my signature changes from bold to normal.
When I reply or forward e-mails (with the exact same signature), I retain the
bold font. I have tried re-creating a signature, to no avail. I am using
the same signature "name" for both new e-mails and replies to e-mails, so why
would my font be different? New e-mails open as HTML, so that is not the
problem. Any ideas?
