Losing contact data, etc. if I uninstall Office Pro 2003 & reinsta

Yesterday, I was told by MS that the MS Office Pro 2003 I have could not be
validated because it is not legal. When it was sold to me, I expected that it
was for the price. Anyhow, I would like to uninstall the illegal copy and
install a legal copy.
My question is a 2 part question. If I uninstall and reinstall a new copy
of Office Professional 2003, do I lose my Outlook data - the contacts,
emails, etc.? If not, would installing Office Professional 2007 instead of
2003 work and be compatible with my current files, Word, Excel, Outlook, etc.?

Thanks for your help.

Who exactly did tell you that? Microsoft Support or a dialog box from
Microsoft Office?
I'm asking because Microsoft Support wouldn't leave you in the dark like
this and could have easily not only directly answer your questions, but also
ask you more about the counterfeited software and (to some extend) also
supported you with making a claim against the vendor if you were under the
impression that you were buying a legal version.

That said;
-reinstalling won't result in a loss of Outlook data just like it wouldn't
mean losing your Word documents, Excel sheets etc...
-yes, you can also directly upgrade to Office 2007. Just make sure you first
fully uninstall Office 2003 before starting the installation of Office 2007.
In certain situations, you may need to recreate your mail profile after
upgrading to Outlook 2007. For this see;

It is of course still a good thing to make regular backups of your Outlook
data;

Roady [MVP], my wife and I say "You are the man!"
We called Microsoft because we were having the problem and one of the nice
people there simply said we had an illegal copy and that it came from a
company that had purchased many copies. They said someone from the company
stole the copy and sold it to me. And, we thought it was a good copy. I can
not remember what the price was, but it did say OEM. I am sure I do not have
a receipt for the purchase. I wish I had it. I would definitely get in tough
with this guy.

Tonight, I will order from Office Depot, a place I can trust, and know that
I will have a legal copy that can be updated.

We can not thank you enough for your help in the matter. We have a small
home-based and really need to know that what we purchase will work, and is
legal.

Thanks again for your valued and informative help.
