Losing data using ON 07 and USB Drive

Miles

I read the post from MSN blog about running OneNote 2007 off of a USB drive.
I've lost data several times and wonder what I'm doing wrong, even though I
feel I'm following the instructions.

I created a new OneNote Notebook on the USB, moved lots of data into, then
took out the USB drive. When I next launched ON on my PC, I forgot to put
the USB drive back in. No problem according to the blog, the data is stored
in cache under documents and settings, next time you plug in the USB drive,
OneNote will know to sync any changes added while the USB drive was out with
the USB notebook.

This didn't happen. I added data into the "cache" version and when I
plugged the USB drive back in and ON started syncing, I keep getting the
message: "Waiting to sync this section. Another OneNote program created it
has not yet uploaded the content." This message appears on all pages. I can
see the tabs but I don't see page names or content. There's no data properly
showing in this whole Notebook, not just the pages that I added without the
USB drive in. The Notebook shows to have sync'd properly.

This has now happened 3 times. Other than making sure I have the drive
attached to my computer before I launch ON, is there anything I'm doing wrong?

I'm using XP SP2.

Thanks,

Miles

When it happens, open Task Manager and see how many onenote.exe
processes you have running. Is it more than one?

There's one OneNote.exe and one OneNoteM.exe, which I assume is for the
system bar ON icon.
