We've recently implemented OneNote2007 in a team of 25 consultants. I've
told them that they are to embed their Word and Excel files in OneNote and
work on them in OneNote. We are having some problems which are making people
nervous about keeping their files in OneNote.
1. work on a file and close it, go to another Window (eg Outlook) and start
typing. OneNote window suddenly becomes active without warning and the
typing overwrites and deletes the embedded file in OneNote which was still
highlighted. This problem is quite serious because while the file can be
recovered if the user notices (unedit). If they don't notice then they lose
the file.
2. work on a file and close it. Later close OneNote but it says the file
is still open and the user is told to click 'discard changes'. This is
making them very nervous even though I have shown them the changes have been
saved in OneNote.
3. work on a file, go to close it and are told the file is read-only and it
can't be saved back into OneNote. The file was not read-only to start with.
(The workaround is to save the file to a folder and then reinsert it into
OneNote)
All users are running OneNote 2007.
It should not be possible to delete an embedded file without a warning
prompt in the same way that a warning appears when deleting a file from a
folder.
Is there anything we can do to avoid these problems? are any enhancements
planned to address these problems?
thanks
