Losing formating/alignments - pasting between files

I'm using Visio 2003 SP1.
When I paste from one file to another, the formating is lost, font sizes
change and connector lines move. Is there a way to overcome this? I'm
combining two files into one and it's driving me crazy. I don't want to
have to re-align/format the content.
