I am process technician using PowerPoint 2000 to create work instructions for
our electronics repair center. We save all our presentations as pps. The line
workers view these presentations by PP viewer. All our documentations are
revision controlled. In most of our presentations we need to link another
presentation or a word document. We have one drive with sub folders where we
store all our presentations. There is a folder where we store the master file
and then there are other folders where we store presentations we are
currently working on. We need to have these separate folders because the line
workers will be using the master file while we edit a copy. Once we’re done
editing the presentation we would then delete the master and replace with the
edited version. Whenever we move the presentation from folder to folder the
links will get lost. I know that you will tell me that we need to move the
files that are linked to that presentation to the same folder that the master
is at, but we cannot do that. The files we link to, as I said earlier are
revision controlled and are used in several different presentations. If I
were to add that linked procedure to each folder where the presentation has
that link, I would have numerous copies out there. Then if I had to make a
change to that linked file I would then have to change it in every place that
I move one to. Is there a way to add these links and not lose them (without
moving to same said folder)? Would I have the same problem using 2007 or 2008
version?
Sorry for any confusion, is hard to explain how we use Power Point. We use
it a little differently then most.
