Losing section header formatting during TOC updates!!

I have a Word 2000 document with the following breakdown:

section 1 - cover page; copyright page; revision history page; blank page

section 2 - table of contents; odd and even headers/footers; here I am using
( STYLEREF "Banner" \* MERGEFORMAT ) to get "Table of Contents" to appear on
the pages that the TOC appears on.

section 3 - main body of document; here I am using ( STYLEREF "Heading 2" \*
MERGEFORMAT ) to get whatever text appears in Heading 2 in the main portion
of my document.

My problem lies in when I do refreshes on the TOC. For some reason I'm
losing my embedded section break (next page option selected) and section 2
now inherits the formatting for section 3.

I've gone in and embedded continuous page breaks and every other type of
page break and it gets lost whenever I refresh the TOC.

If anyone has recommendations on how to fix this problem please let me know
via email!!

Many thanks in advance!!!
Alan

This is a chronic problem with TOCs. Unless you have the TOC field (rather
than the result) displayed when you insert a page or section break, it is
all too easy to get it inside the field. Whenever you update the TOC field,
it is chucked out along with all the other "garbage." To guard against this,
it's always a good idea to make sure there is at least one empty paragraph
following the paragraph in which you insert the TOC. You can then use that
paragraph for the purpose of inserting new text, a page or section break,
etc.
