Losing "Show this folder as an e-mail Address Book" problem

Outlook Version : 2000 SP-3
OS: Windows 2000

We have a group of users who want to have a common address book.
They were doing this under NT and it didn't seem to have problems but
now it is. Essentially, there is a PST that is edited and that PST
is then copied to another file for use by each user(in a login script).
Actually, because the new person handling this wasn't opening the PST,
quickly making the changed, and closing the file, there is actually a system
task to copy the file to a safe place every night and the login script is copying
from here. This cleared up the problem of the file not getting copied because
it was open. However, we have another problem with this method. If
the original is opened and changed, the next morning everyone loses
the check mark on "Show this folder as an e-mail Address Book" for
their version of the file (which has been replaced by the new version
when they logged in). In addition, after they recheck the box, they
duplicates of the folder name when they click "To" while sending
and look at the "Show names from" list. One gives an error and one
is good. They have to go into Tools> Services and remove on from the
Outlook Address Book configuration.

I already tried using Export to update the saved copy and we ended
up with the same problem. I know we could have them update their
version by hand using import but this seems a bit difficult for some of
the users. They previously did this with Net Folders under NT but
ran into difficulties (don't remember which ones--frankly, this wasn't
my problem until recently). The plan is to move to Exchange soon
but I do need to see if I can figure out a stop gap method that isn't
too complicated. Any ideas would be appreciated.
