Loss of SQL behind views again...oops..:)

oops, pushed send a bit early before, been a long day!

I am having a weird problem with SQL server 7.0 and Access 2000. I am
currently rewriting a database for a client and need to have some views
which have a lot of columns (don't ask why!! :)) and therefore a pretty
long script behind them.

The problem I am getting is occasionally when the view is opened in design
view, either in an adp project or using enterprise manager a large chunk of
the script seems to dissappear, never to be seen again, even if it is not
saved.

Anyone heard of this sort of problem before? More of an annoyance than a
real problem as I tend to design the views in Query analyser anyway so have
the scripts saved seperately, but it would be nice if I could fix it.

Try reducing the hardware accelerator parameters of your video card.

Hi,

Not sure how that would affect it, but tried it anyway. made no difference.
Any other ideas?

No, I have no other idea. I made the suggestion because I had the same
problem with my old Matrox card: with some applications, often a whole
section of text was going "blank": the text was still there if I saved it
and I was able to cut and paste it into another window but on this
particular window, it was suddenly invisible and remained this way; even if
I tried to scrolled up or down the window. However, if I deactivated all
hardware accelerations, but on Windows and for the video card driver, the
problem disappeared.

The fact that you have this problem in both ADP and Enterprise Managed was a
vivid remainder to me in some way.

Hi,

ah, I understand where you where coming from now. Unfortunately this seems
to actually delete the middle of the script. simply the act of opening the
view in design view will damage it, not saving it will not help.

I've been trying opening the view using enterprise manager on the server
which doensn't seem to create the same issue.

Could it be anything to do with a dodgy network???

You mean that the portion of text get really deleted? Hum, I don't remember
any comment on this kind of weird behavior, it's totally new to me.

The fact that you are seeing the same problem with EM is really troublesome;
because it leave behind the easy explanation of some sort of compatibility
problem between Access 2000 and SQL-Server 7.

Beside Access and SQL-Server, what version of Windows are you using and,
maybe more important, what kind of communication protocol between your
machine and the server are you using? (TCP/IP, Named Pipes or
Multiprotocol). Personally, I always use TCP/IP for communicating with
SQL-Server, even on a LAN, but maybe switching to something else might solve
your problem.

I'm on a Win2K workstation using TCP/IP. likewise, I always use TCP/IP.

I had a look at the other article you sent, I haven't done anything like
that. Everything is running as default.

very very strange. I hate problems like this! :(

Of course, in your case, before upgrading, I would take a serious look at
the network.
