Loss of Word 97 Document Access when MSHS 2007 installed

I recently purchased MSHS 2007. It installed without any problem on my Vista
Laptop, but not on my XP desktop.
I had to uninstall the MSHS because I couldn't access any Word 97 Documents,
and the Word 2007didn't seem complete either, just a background with no space
to type.
The only error message I noted was a missing file "word.lnk" when I tried to
access the older (1997) Word documents. I tried the repair function from
Control Panel to no avail. I ended up using Norton Go Back to a setpoint
before the HSMS installation, so I could have a functioning word processing
function.

Any advice on how I could install MSHS on my XP and still be able to
read/use the older files?

I have seen reports of Go Back causing problems on various systems (niether
do you mention the version)
I'd suggest uninstalling all of Norton, using the tool available on Norton
Site, to Completely remove, then clearing temp files and rebooting your
system.

Then install H&S, ensure it is functioning and updated, then within Word
2007 opening one of your old docs.
