Hi,

After downloading a software update, and restarting, all my folders in the
right sidebar were empty. I was able to salvage inbox. But the first
entourage window that came on was the one "Welcome to Entourage" or
something like that, for me reminiscent of the "Chimes of Doom".

Thanks, Rafael

Sounds like you are in a new blank database. Check the size.

Examples of a blank database
2004 --> 18.1 KB
2008 --> 22.6 MB

Have you looked to see if the Microsoft User Data folder or if your Office
2004 Identities folder was moved? Be sure to look in the trash.

Tip: If you quit all applications by logging out/in with Shift key down when
updating you are less likely to experience problems with the updater moving
or deleting data.

Happy Holidays!

Wow, is this a New Year's bug or what? I had to force quit all my applications (at once, so not given the usual option of closing them down one at a time) and I lost everything. Entourage came up as a new database. I have hunted in the folders mentioned above - Microsoft User Data and Identities folders, but to no avail. Does that mean all is lost? Viv

I've experienced the same problem after the auto update. Fortunately, I backed up my files about a week prior. But all other data was lost! I checked the Identities folder as well as other areas and nothing.

There are a couple of options here:

1) files were moved out of the Documents Microsoft User Data folder. Search
your hard drive for "Microsoft User Data", "Identities 2008" or "Main". If
you find them move them back.

2) When your system crashes or you power down before you shut down, the
system can loose files and/or move them to an invisible folder called
'lost+found'.

Leopard has made it harder to find invisible items. I know there are several
third party freeware applications that can help locate them, if you don't
find them in the Finder. I can't check because the folder does not exist
unless there are files in the folder.
