Lost all my e-mail addresses and e-mails - help!!

I had a major crash on my PC yesterday and had to do a Recovery. In the
process, of course, I lost all my data files. I have managed to retrieve my
pictures and documents but can't seem to get my old e-mail addresses and
e-mails, of which I have hundreds. I think I know where the file is but
don't know how to get it back into Outlook 2007. The Microsoft site doesn't
seem to deal with this situation.
Anyone know what to do?

Thanks Brian. After a bit of faffing about I have managed to retrieve my
2,000 e-mails, though not, sadly, the e-mail addresses. However as I only
have about 100 correspondents that didn't take my time to update my Address
Book.

I can now go to bed happy. Thanks.

Only trouble is now I have two Personal Folders, one my old one which I want
to keep and the new one which was created when I did the recovery. How do I
get rid of the new one, anybody know?

Control Panel-Mail-Data Files. Set the old one as the Default Delivery
location, then remove the new one in the same place. (It doesn't actually
delete the file, it just removes it from the Outlook profile...)

If you recovered the mail data properly, you would have also recovered the
Contacts and Calendar properly. Describe how you recovered the mail. Click
the Ccontacts folder. Does it not contain your contacts? Outlook's Address
Book contains no data. It's a view of your Contacts folder. If you have
contacts in the Contacts folder but nothing when you open the Address Book
interface and select "Contacts" from the "Show names from the" drop-down, then
you Outlook Address Book service is misconfigured and we can deal with that.

hopefully, prevent this sort of thing happening again, although I'm still not
sure which files to back up to make sure I get both my e-mails and my address
book backed-up.

I now have a backup stand-alone drive which I am using twice a week to save
My Computer and My Documents, and assume that will cover everything I would
need if things go pear-shaped again?

The folders in the delivery location will be the default folders. In Outlook,
click Tools>Account Settings and select the Data Files tab. Select the data
store containing the folders you want to be the default folders and click Set
as Default. Stop and restart Outlook.

I typed all my e-mail addresses in the Contacts form (via Address Book tab)
but they do not automatically appear when I try to send an e-mail and type
the first letter of their name. The default folder is Address Book MAPI
under "Account Settings" but this is empty and I want to make the Contacts my
Address Book but don't know how to do it because I don't know where to pick
up the Contacts file in order to change it to the default.

I'm tearing my hair out at the moment because I tried what you said below
and couldn't find the data store containing the files.

I can certainly right-click on my Contacts in this instance of Outlook
2007 - what makes you think you can't?

If you're talking about Go>Contacts, I can't right click because there's
nothing to right click to. I don't have any other icon for Contacts on the
Outlook 2007 screen. If I try to put one in via the Standard Menu bar, that
doesn't allow me to right click either. I'm using Windows XP with Office
2007 with Office Enterprice 2007. I have XP Service Pack 3 and office
Service Pack 2.

Do you not have the Navigation Pane turned on? That's where you

Then when you do Go-Contacts, you should see, in the navigation pane on the
left hand side, at the top, Contacts under "My Contacts". Right-click on
that.
