lost all tool bars

In Word 2000 I have absolutely no toolbars. Someone told
me that the Normal.dot file is gone. I have uninstalled
Word (even the whole Office Suite). When I install it
back, still no tool bars. How can I get the whole thing
completely off my computer so that I can reinstall it with
the original default settings?

I guess you could remove Office and reinstall but more than likely
you'll find you still have the same problem :)

This is caused by some corruption in a key of the Registry which holds
your personal preferences and it is not recreated when you reinstall
Office.

This article provides the instructions you need to correct the
problem:

I have exactly the same problem, no toolbars or menu bars.
Have you had a satisfactory reply yet?

Beth,

What a total genius you are! I've just followed the
instructions in the link you gave (I had to follow the
complete cretins version!) and I am now again furnished
with toolbars and menus. Many thanks.

Beth,
Thank you so very much - the /a switch worked. As you know
it only took a few seconds. You made my day. Thank you
again!!
