lost categories

For some reason I've lost all my custmised categories in Outlook 2003 from
the category list and master list. They are still attached to items such as
tasks but not in the pull down pick lists so I can't add them to new items.

I realise I can retype them but I wondered what had caused it and if I can
reinstate them somehow without retyping them?

I read somewhere that categories are located somewhere in the registry, but
I dont know exactly where. I think either in the microsoft site or
pcworld.com, if you search for categories, you'll probably find some info,
how to retrieve them.

The problem I have is that I've got many mails and I assign (one of many )
customised categories manually to each one of them mails. This takes too
many clicks though and I'm looking for a more efficient way to do it. If you
have any idea, I'll be glad to hear it.
