I have Visio 2003, I'm writing comments to a Visio 2002 file as the
client is reviewing it with me over the phone, I'm saving as I write in
Visio 2002 format (client can't read 2003), the next day I open the doc
and all my comments are GONE!

Any hope?

Thanks!

I don't know of a way to recover here. Comments are new in Visio 2003, so
when you save the file in Visio 2002 format they get deleted.

As you have found out, comments are one of things lost when saving as an
older version. For this reason, when saving as an older version, you should
also save as the current version. Are the comments important to the client?
If so, save as a HTML webpage or other graphic format. Another option is to
let the user use the Visio Viewer.

I've now learnt this the hard way, unfortunately... Why can't Visio
warn me that my work would be lost?

Try to look in C:\Documents and Settings\USERNAME\Local Settings\Temp

In this folder, Visio stored autosaved version of files. Unfortunately there
may be >100. Look VSD files with name like VSO1E.vsd.

You could get your client to use the Visio Viewer, therefore you don't have
to save in Visio 2002 format, and he can see your comments.

Hi John,

Thanks for helping.

Is there a place where I could find a list of the things that will be lost
when saving a 2003 Visio file in 2002/2000 format?

Thanks,

Alex
