lost contacts files

Using Outlook 2000...
I switched from Corporate Workgroup(CW) setup to Internet
Mail Only (IMO). The process eliminated all my other
profiles, and now I can't find my contacts. Are they
retrievable?

Hi Sean,

There are several possible causes for your issue. I am not sure if your contacts were located in other
profiles. I will give you steps assuming this is a possibility. All steps for each possibility can also be
found in the article below.

195719.KB.EN-US OL2000: (CW) How to Back Up, Restore, or Move Outlook Data
http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=KB;EN-US;195719

A) Search your machine for all (.pst) files. Contact items are located in these files and can be imported
to your current .pst file used in your IMO installation of Outlook. Follow the steps located in the following
article to complete these actions:

Importing Personal Folder Data
------------------------------
To import a personal folder file into Outlook, follow these steps:

1. On the File menu, click "Import And Export".

2. Click "Import from another program or file", and then click Next.

3. In "Select the file type to import from", click "Personal Folder
File (.pst)", and click Next.

4. In "File to Import", click Browse to locate the PST file you want to
import, and then click Next. If you know the path, type it in the box.

5. In "Select the folder to import from", click the folder containing
the data you want to import. If the folder contains subfolders, and you
want to include this data in the import process, click to select
"Include Subfolders". If the destination for importing is the currently
selected folder, click "Import items into the current folder";
otherwise, click "Import items into the same folder in". This will
create matching items in the destination folder you select.

6. Click Finish.

B) You might have been using a Personal Address Book. If so, you will need to search your machine
for (.pab) files and import this into Outlook.

Import the Personal Address Book into Outlook Contacts
------------------------------------------------------

1. On the File menu, click "Import and Export".

2. In the Import/Export Wizard, click "Import from another program or
file", and then click Next.

3. In the "Import a file" dialog box, click Personal Address Book, and
then click Next.

4. In the next "Import a File" dialog box, under "Select a
destination", browse through the folders to the new folder that you
created, and then click Next.

5. Click to select the "The following actions will be performed" check
box, and then click Finish. You Personal Address Book is now imported.

Hope this helps!

William, thanks for your help. I really appreciate it.

My contacts were located in other profiles. I created a
new profile at the startup of Outlook (where you select
which profile you wish to use) and through the creation
process I opted for IMO.

I searched for both types of files and came up empty. So,
I am at a loss. Would changing back to CW setup bring
back the profiles?

Yes, changing would bring back your profiles. The only way you would not have a .pst file is if you are
connected to an exchange server. If you are not using an exchange server, your contact data will be
included in the .pst file. It can also be included in a .pab (personal address book) file that you can
import into Outlook.

Make sure you are searching:
- - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - -
system folders
hidden files and folders
subfolders

If you are not searching these, your search may not find the proper .pst files on your machine.
