Lost emails after compacting messages in outlook express 6

Hi

This nightware happened just last night. A box popped to ask me if I want to
compact my messages. I clicked yes, then after the operation I lost all my
inbox emails for the past 2 months. I am using outlook express 6. Anyone
might know what has happened? and how do I get those messages back? thanks
