lost emails in outlook 2002 after Office 2007 Beta

I recently took part in the Office 2007 beta and used Outlook 2007. After
the beta closed I have reverted to my old Outlook 2002 SP3 but in so doing
appear to have 'lost' all of the emails sent & received during the time I
used 2007 beta.

Is there any way to recover these emails, preferably without upgrading?

Depends; did you create a UNICODE pst-file or an ANSI pst-file? Try to open
the pst-file with File-> Open-> Outlook Data File...
