Lost File Button/Menu

Not sure if this is an Office problem, but suddenly I have lost the File
button from the main toolbar (the top left button that has the Save, Save
as.., Open etc in the drop down menu).
I am completely baffled - how can I recover it please? (Have uninstalled
and reinstalled Office - same problem).
Thanks

Can you open Customize and then on the Middle tab, drag "File" back up
to the menu? I haven't used Office 2000 for 5 years, so that is just a
guess.

Thanks but nope - that doesn't work either. I can drag individual commands
but not the File function itself.

The Word MVP article was quite good.
I used the Run - winword.exe /a suggestion and that immediately brought back
the File button but as soon as I opened another document it had disappeared
again!
So I tried the delete Data key under
\\HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Office\9.0\Wod\Data and deleted the
Toolbars entry - there was no effect.
Before I try deleting the whole key.
Any other ideas anyone?
Thanks

Perfect - well done. Your hunch was correct.
I (finally) managed to find the normal.dot file - not easy to find - deleted
it and bingo everything returned to normal - the File button has re-emerged.
Thanks for your help - keep up the good work!
