Lost Format

Excel version 2007

I now have 2 files that are losing their formats. It happened spontaneously
to all the cell formating that I did today. I did not save it that way but
when I closed out and restarted my computer, the file did not come back with
the formatiing which is the way that I saved it last. Why does this happen?

No, I did not and now it is happening to another file. Previously, I had to
start the file over from scratch and then I did not have the problem again.
Somehow the files are becoming corrupted. Seems like this is happening on
larger files where I have been using the New Windwo view where you can see
version 1 & 2 of the file. Is there anyone who can assist on this one?

Ok so I chose to be the guinea pig and tried the Excel Repair “Tool at
http://www.datanumen.com that has been recommended in other similar threads
and I think we can stop recommending it unless you have a spare $89.95.
Result:
File is recoverable. But the demo verion will only include the first 30
recovered cells. Please order the full version to get the remaining cells.
I’m not sure I would trust a utility that has spelling errors in its errors.

Obviously I’m having a similar issue
My sheets are losing cell colour, border, and test type etc. formats
I tried uninstalling back to ver. 2003 but then 2003 would not function so
I but back on 2007 an am having the same results.
I also have another file that is giving “too many formats: error if you try
to open it in 2003.
It would seem that our copies of Excel 2007 have become corrupt, but how to
fix it?
As this is not happing every time I save the file I have been getting by
making lots of copies or working it on other PCs.

Thanks for posting your review of that program.

If your file formats are xl2003 (not xl2007), then you could try Open Office.
http://www.openoffice.org, a 60-104 meg download or a CD

Lots of people have said that it can recover stuff that excel can't.

I haven't looked at OpenOffice in awhile. I don't think it can open the xl2007
native files--but you'll want to verify that. Maybe it does now????

You will realise, I hope, that the only person (as far as I know) who has
been recommending that product is the man who is trying to sell it, though
he usually pretends in this newsgroup that it is an unbiased third-party
recommendation.

I am having the same issues and can't find help either. Did you happen to
save it on a MAC in the excel version they have? It seems like my issue
started after that (Possibly). I loose the Date and Money format every time
after I open the file after I save it looking fine.
