lost formatting

Hi,
I am using XP 2002. When I exit a document and then re-
open the document, all of the formatting has been lost
and here is a long list of what I assume are formatting
commands at the end of the document such as the below. I
noticed this recently with tables (but realize it has
happened before with plain old Word documents) - they
completely disappeared when I re-opened the document. The
text was there, but the table was gone. I was thinking
this might have something to do with autorecovery as that
is one of the appended phrases but have no idea what to
do.

I do switch between XP at home and 2000 at work.


I would be grateful for any help. Now I am afraid to use
my computer at home for any documents.

This suggests that you are opening the document with the 'Recover any text
from file' option set rather than Word Document.
