lost hives

I received an error 1327 invalid drive... I then proceeded
to process my inquirery with microsoft. The info suggested
I delete hkey_local_machine\software\microsoft\works... at
my own risk. I know would like to restore this hive and
fix my error another way.

In what operating system?
Did you export the key before deleting? If so, then import that
export. If not, then (depending on O/S) restore a previous version of
the Registry with Scanreg /Restore
