lost inbox running scanpst, how can I recover as inbox

Lost-not-Found

While trying to read in 19 emails, I received a message stating that my inbox
was damaged and that I needed to run SCANPST. I did so but now I have no
inbox and when I read mail it goes to \Lost and Found\Recovered Folder 8082.
I cannot find a way to rename the recovered folder to inbox or to create a
new inbox. Any ideas?

First make a backup of your .PST file (unless you made one right before you
ran the Inbox Repair Tool), then try starting Outlook once with the
/ResetFolders switch. If you need help using Outlook command line switches,

I have also "lost" the contents of my inbox. I have not run SCANPST and did
not get any messagetelling me it was damaged.

It appears that whenever I shut down Outlook Express it is moving the
contents of the inbox to the deleted items folder. the first time it did
this early this evening, it also cleaned out my Deleted Items folder. things
happened so fast I couldn't stop it.

When I try to do a find on "*. dbx" it does not find anything, same with
"*.pst" and "*.ost". It seems that some setting has been changed as in "upon
closing mover contents of the inbox to deleted items" type of thing. I don't
see a preference or setting for that, but that is what is happening.

Please advise
how do I stop this from happening
and
is there a way to recover the contents that were in the inbox (then the
deleted items folder)?

If you're using Outlook Express, you're in the wrong newsgroup and
anything that you were told does not apply. Outlook Express is a part
of Internet Explorer. Outlook is a part of Office. They are two
totally different programs.

Will try the suggestion, thanks. I do have a .bak file that was made
automatically right before the repair tool was run. What is not clear is how
I get Outlook to look at one .pst versus another. In the repair tool
instructions, it says that I can create a new .pst file and move folders from
the existing Lost and Found to the newly created .pst. What used to say
"Outlook Today" now says "Inbox", so I am concerned as to whether I can do
what they suggest. Thanks again for the assistance.

"Outlook Today" should actually appear at the root of the .PST file, not in
place of the Inbox -- the Inbox is a subfolder of the root folder. In
addition, Outlook Today will only appear at the root of the .PST file that
has been designated as the default mail store, that is, the .PST where your
mail is delivered.

You can open a .PST file via File | Open | Outlook Data File, or you can
create a new .PST file via File | New | Outlook Data File.
