Lost macros

I have repeatedly over the last two years had a problem with macros. Every few months my macros mysteriously disappear. At times they reappear if I update Word, but not this most recent time. I tried restoring my MUD folder but that only seems to have made the problem worse. Now I am unable to even record macros. I would be grateful if someone could give me a hand.

OK, some basic questions:

A) Where are your Macros stored?

B) How do you know that they are 'missing'? (How do you become aware that
they have 'gone').

I suspect that something is deleting your Normal template, but I can't be
sure.

When you say that you are unable to record macros, what happens when you
try?

I can't read your screen from here: I need the wording of the error messages
etc.
