Lost mail when doing drag and drop

M

My office has converted from Groupwise to Exchange/Outlook. We've had a few
users that have experienced mail loss when trying to drag and drop or moving
mail from one folder to another. This is a law firm and for certain reasons
the dumpster is turned off so any lost mail is only recouped through a
restore. This is very frustrating. What causes this behavior in Outlook?

I'm not quite sure. We cannot find them with a search. I didn't mention that
our Exchange server dumpster is set to 0 days as policy. How do I check to
see if it is in the Outlook Today folder?

Is it getting dropped in the wrong folder or the Outlook today folder? Can
you find them using advanced find?

Items are not in the Outlook Today Folder.

Then it sounds like they were dragged elsewhere. Do you have access to a
desktop dearch utility like Windows Desktop Search, Google Desktop Search, ot
Lookeen?

Yes you can drop them outside of Outlook on the desktop or open hard
drive folder, BUT it should have made a copy in that case.

So, you're saying that they would have been dropped outside of Outlook??

No, I mean that they were dragged to another Outlook folder, not the root
folder of the PST, and you just don't know which one.

This has happened a few more times. The user will select a group of emails to
move or copy it appears that they were moved or copied, but they actually
disappear. I have checked the root folder and run a search on the other
folder. Still cannot find the emails. This is intermittent and frustrating.
My company want to go back to Groupwise.
