Lost my comp. to lightening-now need to find my data in Outlook

After we lost our computer, Geek Squad went in and pulled all of our data
files. I have the CD's and have been slowly transferring the data to my new
PC. However, I lost all my emails and addresses in Outlook. I have 2003
edition, POP3 , and on Vista now. I think I am supposed to look for a .pst
file but I am not even sure where on the backup CD's I would find that? I
thought I read that POP3 automatically saves the info wo we won't have to
backup. Do I have it on the backup CD's or is it on the old PC? I am not very
computer literate as you can see but need this info for work and I need help!

The default location of the pst file is:
C:\Documents and Settings\{your user account}\Local Settings\Application
Data\Microsoft\Outlook\
How you relate that to your backup CDs I can't help you with....

Thanks Gordon- I was able to find the location you gave me but did not know
how to find it on the backup CD's either. Not sure where to even start.

What format is the backup CD? Is it just copied data from your original
computer's C: drive? If so, can you look at it with Windows Explorer,
and check if you have a .PST file at X:\Documents and
Settings\{olduser}\Local Settings\Application Data\Microsoft\Outlook (X:
standing for the drive letter of your CD drive) ?

The next step(s) depend on whether you already have new mail in your new
..PST file. If you do, you will need to copy your old PST file from the
CD to the location that Gordon gave below (as a different name, e.g.
Old-Outlook.pst), then remove the read-only attribute (right-click, then
Properties), and finally open it with Outlook (File, Open Outlook Data
File).

You will then see two Personal Folders Files in Outlook; the old one and
the new one. If you wish, you can merge them by dragging-and-dropping
items from one file to the other.

OK- I did everything you said and I have 2 personal folders. It will not let
me merge, but it appears the new folder is empty anyways. I saw a couple of
emails in the sent items folder from 2 years ago, but that's it. Noe of my
personal folders I created, saved emails, or contacts. Am I doing something
wrong?
