Lost My Permissions

I recently implemented Security for the first time, following detailed
instructions. This afternoon I added a new user to the BFUsers group, our
lowest level group that has read and modify data permissions.

I also accidentally pressed the Clear Password button, thinking I was
setting no password for the new user. Now I can't get back into the
database, with it saying that I do not have the necessary permissions.

I have a backup and I wrote down the information when the .mdw was created.
It is in fact in the security box across the street.

Can anyone tell me how I can restore the file to the state it was in b4, as
well as offer a theory on what I did?

Thank you.

I've seen this a number of times. You open the Accounts dialog, with the
intent of clearing some user's password. In your haste you hit Clear
Password, before you select a user. Unfortunately the Admin User is quite
often the first in the list, and therefore selected by default. Therefore,
you have reset the password for Admin user.

As a result you no longer get the login dialog, and you are silently logged
in as Admin, which doesn't/shouldn't have any permissions.

How to fix: Create a desktop shortcut with just the "path to msaccess.exe"
/wrkgrp "path to mdw"

Use it to open Access - you'll be logged in as Admin - now go to Tools,
Accounts and click on change password and change the null password to
something else. Quit Access and you're back in business.

Joan,

You're awesome. Thank you.

This first experience with security has had its learning curve, as I
expected.
