Lost my third and fourth level Numbering

I just reformatted a 50-page doc, after having read the articles on Numbering
recommended in this Group. I got through the whole document, having
reformatted every single paragraph, then all of a sudden the third and fourth
level paragraph numbers disappeared!!

Any idea how/why this happened?

Here is what I did:

I Modified Heading 1. for Outline Numbering. In the Numbering area, I
specified a new Style called Normal1 for Second level Numbering. BTW, I think
it is odd that you cannot specify a Style for each of the Numbering levels,
or at least I wasn't able to.

Note: the 3rd and 4th Numbering levels had "no style" as the style, and they
seemed to be picking up the "parent" style of the the previous level (2nd
level).
